Why use blackout fabric for interior curtain?

Blackout vs. Dimout — What’s the Difference?

Many suppliers use the terms interchangeably, but they are not the same. Under PN-EN 14501:2005, a fabric qualifies as dimout if it blocks light at 1,000 lux. A true blackout fabric must remain opaque at 75,000 lux or higher.

Blackout fabrics

  • 100%light blocked
  • TPU or coating with black layer in the middle
  • stiff, softness no good.

Dimout fabrics

  • 95% light blocked
  • special yarn or black yarn used
  • softer than blackout fabric
